Select the right AB-CO PURGE unit for your requirements, using the tabs below.

If it has been determined that a “Type-Z” purge and pressurization system is required for the respective Hazardous Environment Rating (Class, Division, Group), the following table will assist in selecting the corresponding AB-CO PURGE Model No. that will meet your needs. Using the Volume Calculator, determine the appropriate enclosure volume required. Then click on the AB-CO PURGE Model No. to obtain the product data sheet.

Definition of a Z Purge System

Type-Z Purge and Pressurization…. Permits use of electrical equipment suitable for unclassified locations with the protected enclosure where the equipment would otherwise be required to be suitable for Division 2 or Zone 2 locations.

Per NFPA 496, Type-Z reduces the classification with an enclosure from Division 2 to unclassified

If it has been determined that a “Type-Y” purge and pressurization system is required for the respective Hazardous Environment Rating (Class, Division, Group), the following table will assist in selecting the corresponding AB-CO PURGE Model No. that will meet your needs. Using the Volume Calculator, determine the appropriate enclosure volume required. Then click on the AB-CO PURGE Model No. to obtain the product data sheet.

Definition of a Y Purge System

Type-Y Purge and Pressurization….Permits use of electrical equipment suitable for Division 2 or Zone 2 locations with the protected enclosure where the equipment would otherwise be required to be suitable for Division 1 or Zone I locations.

Per NFPA 496, Type-Y reduces the classification with an enclosure from Division 1 to Division 2

Knowing the lowest hazardous rating of any component in the electrical enclosure will help determine what type of purge and pressurization system will reduce the hazardous location classification. Once this is done, you can calculate the enclosure(s) volume (volume calculator) and using the following table, select the corresponding AB-CO PURGE Model No. that will meet your requirements. Then click on the AB-CO PURGE Model No. to obtain the product’s data sheet.
